Quantum Fuel Pump EFI Filter HFP-S38 (Single)

It's crucial to replace your fuel pump strainer regularly, even if your fuel pump is currently working fine. The fuel pump strainer, also known as the pre-filter or fuel sock, serves as the first line of defense against contamination in the fuel system, including dirt, dust, and other particles commonly found in regular pump gasoline.

Over time, gasoline tends to varnish, leaving a thick film on everything inside the tank, including the fuel pump internals, tank walls, and especially the strainer. A varnished or clogged strainer restricts fuel flow, causing the fuel pump to work harder, which can significantly reduce its lifespan. Without a doubt, varnishing of the fuel tank and clogging of the strainer are the primary causes of fuel pump failure.

For Powersports applications where the engine isn't run every day like in automotive vehicles, it's recommended to replace the fuel pump strainer annually as part of inexpensive preventative maintenance. Additionally, if the engine won't be used for an extended period, adding a bottle of fuel stabilizer to the tank and running the engine for a few minutes to circulate the stabilizer throughout the system is highly recommended.
